The theme was supposed to be all about monkeys, since that’s her most current pet name. Why “Monkey” you might ask, well, because she was born with these long gangly feet and toes which she now uses quite dexterously for climbing, most notably when you’re holding her. She drapes both arms around your neck and proceeds to scale your stomach as if you’re a tree and she’s trying to get to the highest branch to perch. ANYWAY…
I had ordered decorations and supplies from the Oriental Trading Company to be delivered on Thursday last week, but Thursday came and went with no delivery. On Friday morning, after tracking my order online to see that it was still in Minnesota with a delivery date of Monday, June 30th, I called OTC to let them know that that wasn’t going to work with our party schedule. They were kind enough sent out a second order in hopes that it would arrive on Saturday, but it didn’t.
After making a last minute trip to Party America, I was forced to settle on a jungle theme, which did have a monkey, plus a zebra and a lion.

I did decorate, however, with a special emphasis on monkeys

After a week of melting, suffocating, heat and humidity, Sunday turned out to be a gorgeous day, so we were able to be outside, where there was more room for all of the family and friends that came to help us celebrate.

We ate lots of good food, opened LOTS of fun new gifts, had cupcakes and ice cream, and sang “Happy Birthday” several times (her reaction to our singing to her was absolutely priceless and very entertaining! The expression on her face was happy, perplexed, slightly frightened, but amused all in one – quite hilarious).

At the end of the day, after partying like she’d never partied before, she went to bed with her hair all a mess and remnants of cupcake still somewhere, no doubt, and dreamed of what next year’s birthday might be like.

What a fun day! Can’t believe she’s 1
