It was one of the first of many I’m sure.
We had Kendal’s First Birthday Party yesterday with our families and some of our close friends – more to come on that in a later post.
In traditional birthday fashion, I put a candle in her cupcake and lit it, so we could all sing “Happy Birthday.” However, I wasn’t thinking enough to NOT proceed to set her lit cupcake down in front of her – right in her little arm’s reach.
Before Matt claims he was going to yell, “Oh shit!” She had stabbed at the flame, sticking the tip of her finger in the hot pink wax thus extinguishing the pretty little light instead of just blowing it out like you’re supposed to.
I guess I had forgotten that blowing out the candles on your birthday cake is not an innate instinct – it’s a learned manner.
I can only hope that I didn’t “learn” her to be terrified of cupcakes and birthdays.
Don’t worry I did the exact same thing!!!

Thank you, my friends, for admitting that I am not the only one who has these lapses in judgment!
I can’t begin to imagine how much worse Matt would have freaked out on me were our family and friends not there to witness it. He was not happy with me in the slightest!
